Step 1: Field History

General Field Conditions:

• Non-irrigated
• Field is flat
• No-till for three years
• Low nitrogen in soil test

 

Previous Year:

• Previous crop was oats, before that peas
• The oat crop had a high yield but plants lodged and had to be cut close to the ground
• Winter wheat seed was treated with Captan 400 at a rate of 4 fl oz/100 lbs of seed
• Winter wheat was seeded at recommended planting date in the fall

 

Current Year:

• 2,4-D Amine application made when wheat reached 4 tillers
• Top dressed with 40 lb./acre nitrogen about two weeks ago
• Cool spring temperature with adequate rainfall
